Hooksway, to Mount Sinai
This walk is deliberately chosen because although it is relatively short it is none the less very challenging. Its main claim to fame is the sheer number of skylark that you will hear from spring right up to early autumn. I must admit this is usually the first lark of the year that I hear and often at the end of September it is still singing.
Start at the Royal oak and find the path in the right-hand corner of the car park. Go straight on
Point 2 Follow this path until you reach a Blue marker post then go straight on to the gate.
Point 3 Go through the gate straight on through field to gate other side.
Point 4 Immediately after you have gone through the gate, turn right. Follow the track in front of you for a few yards.
Point 5 At 3-Finger Post turn left and go up the hill
Point 6 go straight on at this gate.
Point 7 This is a maroon post go straight on and go up the hill.
Point 8 This is Mount Sinai At post turn right Carry straight on and ignore the lane forking to the left. You are now on the South Downs Way
Point 9 At Blue marker post Go straight on follow signs for S.D.W for Ā¾ of a mile
Point 10 and 11 Go dogleg straight on (turn left at 10 and turn right at 11)
Point 12 blue 3-Finger Post bear right and off the S.D.W into a forest path
Point 13 Blue marker post turn right slightly up hill
Point 14 Blue marker post bear right then straight on
Point 15. Go through the gate and carry straight on and back to the pub.
