Hooksway, North Marden Ramble

Hooksway North Marden Ramble

Start at the Royal oak and go up the road that you just drove down.

Point 1 Turn right and follow the path until you come to a 3-finger post and turn left.

Point 2 Follow this path until you reach a main road where you will see a 1 Finger post.

Point 3 Cross the road to the gate which is a bout 10 yards down the hill.

Point 4 Immediately after you have gone through the gate, turn left. Follow the road in front of you and turn left down to the church. Don’t forget to pay a visit to the church, it really is very charming and full of great woodwork in the ceiling.

Point 5 keeping the church to your right go down the hill and find a narrow path in the left-hand corner of the parking area. With a 2-finger post pointing the way go right down to the bottom of the hill which at one point will require you to do a dogleg straight on.

Point 6 Turn left and walk a few yards towards the corner which isn’t so readily visible.

Point 7 Turn right and go up the hill at one stage you will see a fallen tree but work your way round that, you’re looking for a yellow marker post.

Point 8 Carry straight on up the hill.

Point 9 Go straight on up the hill through the trees.

Point 10 Again go dogleg straight on and after a few paces you will reach an open field.

Point 11 Life becomes a little confusing here since there is a 4 Finger post none of which point the way that you need to go. Keeping the hedge to your right, turn right and go straight on.

Point 12 Yellow marker post telling you to go straight on. Point 13 The 4-Finger Post is not obvious until you are nearly on it particularly when all the leaves are on the bushes surrounding it. Turn right here and follow the track.

Point 14 Follow the track to the right.  

Point 15 Just before you reach the road there is a path to your left turn up that to join the road slightly higher up. Cross the road.

Point 16 The blue marker post is not very clear which way you should go. Go through the gate on your right and immediately turn left. Then go straight down the hill.

Point 17 Turn left through the gate and go straight on past a blue finger post and on to the bottom of the hill.

Point 18. At the 4-finger post turn right. This is where the real work starts but don’t worry it’s the last climb. Go up the hill.

Point 19. You will see a 3-Finger post turn right here.

Point 20. Go through the gate and eventually join a made-up road.

Point 21. The 2-Finger post gives the impression that you should turn into the woods, stay on the road.

Point 22. 2-Finger post go through the gate and follow the path back to the pub via point 2 and retrace you way back to the pub
