Up Marden, to Pub at Stoughton and Back
The emphasis on this walk is the and back bit. Chances are this walk could take some time. They are a very friendly bunch in the “Hare and Hounds”. The food is very good, in fact all the right things are in the right place. You have been warned.
Starting at Up Marden Church Walk down the short path opposite the church entrance to the field at the bottom and cross diagonally as the path leads.
Go through the gap in the hedge and cross the road to the path by the farm. Follow this path to a stile and cross this into the forest. Point 2
Go through the forest and into the field. Cross the field diagonally to the house on the opposite side.
Turn left and walk to the end of this track to a “t” junction in the track and turn right. Point 4
Walk down this track for about 15 minutes or just over ½ a mile. To a finger post Point 5
Turn left and go down the hill until you meet a made up road. Turn right and walk to the pub. By now you will have covered 2 and a ½ mile so you’ve earned a pint. Point 6
On leaving the pub, continue on the road and turn right when you come to the square. Then again right up a lane between two walls leading to the church. The church is well worth a visit. Point 7
Carry on through the church and through a kissing gate and follow the lane through the field to a farm track and turn right up the hill. At the crest of the hill take the right hand fork Point 8
and follow the path as it meanders through the forest and eventually to the point where you turned for the last leg of the pub stretch earlier. Point 5
This time turn left and down the hill. This path will eventually lead you to a field with a finger post in the middle.
Carry on through the field and keep going straight up the hill to the other side. Continue to walk up the path with the paddock to your left and the copse to your right. At the “t” junction turn left Point 3
and walk to the made up road. From here turn right and it’s a case of walking on the road to a junction and turning left to the church.
