Cocking Sawmill circle

Cocking is the most under rated village in Sussex. It is the home of world class walks that will thrill anyone and leave you breathless with admiration. Within 1 minute you go from main road to countryside on this walk and the go up the most fabulous hills and scenery that you can imagine. This walk makes you puff and pant, but it guarantees a smile 6’ wide.

Start at the Blue Bell pub and cross the road to

Point 1= Post office Turn right and go downhill to

Point 2 = finger post on right ignore this and carry on for about 20 yards. to

Point 3 =  as the road veers left so you turn right at the finger post part way up lane on right up the farm  track and work your way up the hill.

Point 4 =  finger post among the trees follow as path leads. up to top at farm.

Point 5 =  3 finger post this is the south downs way turn left carry straight on

Point 6 =  2 finger post on left carry straight on

Point 7 =  2 finger post again carry straight on

Point 8 =  2 finger post + Kissing Gate on left. Go through Kissing Gate and take your bearings in the field. Don’t be tempted to follow the obvious sheep path the finger post is more or less the right direction across the field. Walk diagonally (at about ten o clock angle) to the forest on the other side

Point 9 = and look for the Kissing Gate and go through. This is where life gets a bit serious. This is a very steep path on the side of a very steep hill take extreme care and follow as path leads

Point 10 =  Red post follow as path leads

Point 11 =  yellow post dog leg right and straight on

Point 12 =  3 Finger Post go through gap and carry straight on through field.

Point 13 =  finger post at road turn right to

Point 14 =  finger post cross style carry straight on through gate on right.

Point 15 =  gate with a footbridge carry straight on with hedge to your right.

Point 16 =  foot bridge go over field and through copse at finger post.

Point 17 =  finger posts either side of copse carry straight on over field.

Point 18 =  yellow post turn right and follow road.

Point 19 =  turn right at road and up for 20 yards to track through field on left.walk through this field.

Points 20 +21 =  yellow posts follow as path leads around field.

Points 22 +23 = 2 posts separated by steep section of steps and path be very careful these are deceptive. Turn left and follow as path leads back to pub.
