Up Marden, Pitlands, Locksash

Start at Up Marden Church Walk through the church grounds and out to the field at the bottom of the short lane. Go across the field with a hut in the middle to your left. (this is a village well. It can be seen but is very fragile now and cannot be entered by the public). Go through the gap in the hedge and across the road through the gate to the path. Follow this path down the hill to a stile just as you are about to enter a forest. Enter the forest and follow the path through to the field at the other side. (on quiet days there are often deer in this field so be careful as you leave the forest) Walk diagonally across this field to the house that you can see on the opposite side. This is point 2

Point 2 turn left and go around a gate and down the hill. After a matter of yards you will see a path going to your right but be careful because the finger post is not very clear. This is point 3

Point 3 Walk down the path with a copse to your left and a fenced field to your right. At the bottom of this short stretch you will come to an open field. (As you walk on the path at this point be careful to collect a large flint to put on the cairn at the finger post.) at the cairn turn right and continue across the field to the small copse on the other side of the field then turn left. Follow the path until you reach Pitlands farm. This point 4

Point 4 work you way through the farmyard past a series of barns that have been converted to self catering accommodation. Walk down the road to point 5 again the finger post is a little vague here but the point can easily be seen since it is counterpart is on the other side of the road.

Point 5 Follow the path up the hill until you reach a fork take the right hand fork and continue up the the hill. When you reach the top you will still have a short stretch of flat path before you meet another fork. This time take the left fork and walk to the road. This is junction 6

Point 6 Turn right here and follow the road to junction 7 this is Locksash farm. (this is not a very busy road but keep watch all the same. )

Point 7 walk through the farm yard with the hedge to your left and on down the hill, turning left at the finger post. (this path can be slippery during the rain because a lot of it is pure chalk) walk across the field and up the hill to Grevitt’s copse. After a short stretch in the forest you will meet a “t” junction path turn left here and continue through the forest to another finger post. Turn let her and exit the woods into a field immediately turn right and follow the edge of the field to a farm track. Turn right here and back to the start
